These conditions determine whether it will thrive.
Raspberries are hardy to about -15°F, so cold is no issue. No blossom figure was found.
Leaves and wood: damaged below -15°FRaspberries are a stretch in Phoenix. They do poorly in reflected heat off south or west walls, and partial summer shade cuts berry sunburn and improves sweetness. Fall berries on everbearing types are less sunburned.

Baba Red
Rubus idaeus 'Baba Red'The current wholesale selection is vigorous and productive where summers moderate. In the low desert, success depends on afternoon shade, heavy mulch, steady moisture, and protection from reflected heat; a plant simply staying alive is not the same as producing a worthwhile crop.
How to help Raspberries thrive
- 1
Test the intended bed and target pH 5.6–6.5 before planting; correct drainage before trying to correct fertility.
- 2
Build a deep, compost-enriched but low-salt bed and cover it with several inches of organic mulch to cool the shallow roots.
- 3
Give low-desert plants morning sun and afternoon shade from a structure or tall canopy—not merely a small temporary shadow.
- 4
Water often enough to prevent drought stress without saturating the crown; inspect emitters frequently during the hottest weeks.
- 5
Remove spent floricanes after fruiting and thin weak growth so that the retained canes receive air and light.
